Finally Home Program
greeNest's Finally Home Program is a unique local program that, for a small fee, provides household furnishings to individuals and families transitioning to sustainable housing.
We accept donations of gently used furnishings and household goods from individuals and organizations within Winston-Salem and the surrounding areas. Volunteers then sort, clean, and organize goods that the community has thoughtfully donated.
For a nominal fee, participants, accompanied by case managers from one of our partner agencies, will visit our showroom and choose the items that best suit their needs and preferences, thus providing dignity and prioritization skills.
greeNest has furnished over 2100 homes through our Finally Home Program since 2015!

Up Off the Floor Program
greeNest's Up Off the Floor Program provides new beds for children in Forsyth County, from birth to 18 years old. Partner agency case managers identify children sleeping on the floor or who do not have a safe sleeping space. greeNest supplies portable cribs and twin beds with new pillows and bedding at no cost to the family.
To achieve this, greeNest purchases compressed, new-in-box mattresses and compact metal platform frames so families can easily transport the beds without a specialty vehicle. We offer different bed-in-a-bag options for children and their parents to select their favorite bedding.
Since 2016, greeNest has gotten nearly 3000 children Up Off the Floor and into their own beds!
We rely heavily on individual financial donations to keep this program running. Please consider giving to keep our children Up Off the Floor!

Our Beginnings

greeNest was founded by sisters Jan and Joanna, who began volunteering at an overflow homeless shelter at their church. There, they met families working hard to rebuild their lives and saw firsthand that, even after securing housing, many had nothing to furnish their new homes.
Wanting to help, Jan and Joanna began collecting gently used household items from friends and family to meet this very real need.
Inspired by Beth Smoot, co-founder of The Green Chair Project in Raleigh, they shaped a simple but powerful vision: gather the gently used items our community no longer needs and put them to good use for neighbors transitioning into sustainable housing. By collecting and organizing donated furnishings, they created a welcoming showroom where families could shop, choose the items they loved, and begin turning houses into warm, comfortable homes.
It was, and continues to be, a win-win for everyone, where dignity and choice meet comfort, stability, and hope.
